MINUTES OF THE REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

 

The Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.

OPENING:

THAT the Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack be opened for business at 7:00 p.m., with a quorum of members present, with Mayor Reid presiding in the Chair. CARRIED

 

The Land Acknowledgement was read.

DISCLOSURE OF PECUNIARY INTEREST:
Mayor Reid disclosed a Pecuniary Interest with item #6c.) Payroll, as her husband Walter worked at the Landfill. She did not participate in the discussion, influence the vote, or vote on the matter, as she vacated the Chair for that vote.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Mayor Reid shared a Christmas message with the public who were livestreaming the meeting, in which she shared her appreciation to the members of Council for a busy year of accomplishing many goals, to staff for their hard work and to the ratepayers for helping keep our town beautiful. Mayor Reid wished everyone blessings for the season and health and happiness!

THAT we support the Town of Huntsville and the Township of Lake of Bays resolutions regarding Floating Accommodations. CARRIED

THAT we support Greater Napanee’s resolution to implement Provincial Legislation for Third Party Short-Term Rental Companies. CARRIED

THAT we support the Corporation of the Municipality of Wawa’s resolution to call upon the Government of Canada to support Bill C-310 and enact amendments to subsections 118.06 (2) and 118.07 (2) of the Income Tax Act in order to increase the amount of tax credits for volunteer fire fighting and search and rescue volunteer services from $3,000 to $10,000. CARRIED

THAT we support the Corporation of the Municipality of Wawa’s resolution to call upon the Provincial Government to amend the Legislation Act, 2006, to include digital publications as an acceptable means of publication and notice requirements for Provincial Acts and Regulations. CARRIED

THAT we support and agree to participate in Public Health Sudbury and Districts’ Vulnerable Road User Campaign for Spring 2024. CARRIED

BY-LAWS:

THAT By-law 2023-24, being a by-law to enter into a lease agreement with Rhonda Fulton and Bryan Albrecht known as the “Twisted Sister” to lease the Toboggan Hill Canteen, as per the terms and conditions outlined within the lease agreement. CARRIED

THAT in accordance with By-law 02-02 and Section 239 of the Municipal Act, as amended, Council proceed to a Closed Session at 7:25 p.m. in order to attend to the matters pertaining to:
